At least 13 species are visible in official GTA 6 trailers and screenshots — from alligators to a probable tiger shark.officialRockstar has published no species list, so exact identifications are community frame-analysis of official footage.reported

Sources: official Trailer 1 (Dec 2023), Trailer 2 (May 2025), Rockstar site screenshots · as of 2026-08-28. Leak-derived animal lists (cows, possums, whales…) are excluded until they show up in something official.

Every species spotted in official footage

Leonida is fictional Florida, and the trailers lean into it: the wildlife so far is a near-perfect Everglades-and-coastline lineup. Species-level IDs (which gull, which shark) are fan zoology, so treat the Latin-adjacent precision as reported — the animal being on screen is official.

SpeciesWhere seen
American alligatorTrailer 1's wetland shots and multiple official Grassrivers scenes — gator country is a named feature of the region, airboats included
American flamingoA full flamboyance wading through a Trailer 1 wetland shot
Brown pelicanCruising the coastline in Trailer 1's ocean flyover; pelicans reappear around docks in later official material
Bottlenose dolphinA pod surfacing offshore in Trailer 1's ocean shot
Shark (likely a tiger shark)A shadow with intent in the same Trailer 1 ocean shot as the dolphins — species is a community call
Loggerhead sea turtlePaddling past the yacht in Trailer 1's sailing scene
Herring gull / seagullsTrailer 1's opening freeway shot, and loitering wherever there's a coastline — as is tradition
Herons & pink wading birdsTrailer 1's swamp shots; fans read the pink ones as roseate spoonbills, Florida's most on-brand bird
DucksBottom corner of a Trailer 1 wetland shot, contributing nothing and belonging completely
Wild boarRooting at the edge of a Trailer 1 swamp scene
Green iguanaRiding a man's shoulder in Trailer 1's street footage — a pet, technically, but Florida iguanas don't recognize the distinction
Dogs (min-pin & friends)A miniature pinscher jogging with its owners on the beach in Trailer 1; "beware of dog" signage teases more
Deer reportedA shape in a Trailer 1 wetland shot fans read as deer — the least certain ID on this list

Fans have also claimed manatees in Trailer 1's bridge flyover reported — plausible, blurry, unconfirmed. It stays a footnote until a cleaner shot exists.

The RDR2 precedent

Why does anyone expect more than set dressing? Because Rockstar's last game, Red Dead Redemption 2, shipped with roughly 200 ambient species — each with AI routines, predator-prey behavior, and reactions to the player. That's the same studio, one console generation later, building a state whose official region descriptions advertise swamps, keys, and a national park. Rockstar hasn't said a word about hunting, fishing, or petting the alligator official — but the studio's track record is the reason the question isn't if wildlife matters, it's how much.

What's NOT confirmed

No official material shows: hunting, fishing mechanics, animal companions, or rideable anything. Lists circulating with cows, possums, frogs, skunks, and whales come from leaked development footage rumor — this page doesn't count them, per our official-only policy. When a species debuts in a trailer or Rockstar screenshot, it gets a row.

Where the wildlife lives

Match the species to the map: alligators and wading birds belong to Grassrivers, the dolphin-and-pelican coastline runs the Leonida Keys, and the forested Mount Kalaga National Park is everyone's bet for deer, boar, and whatever Rockstar is saving for a scare.
